2026 Quilt Along

Welcome to our 2026 Quilt Along! For 2026, our guild is holding a quilt-along to practice different blocks and techniques. Each month, we’ll share tutorials here to inspire and instruct. You do not have to be a member to participate, but we’d love it if you checked out our Membership page and came to a meeting or Hand Stitch Happy Hour.

The Rules

  • Each month, we’ll share a challenge block or prompt. Use that month’s prompt to create a block, a row, a sampler–whatever feels right to you.
  • Your colors, size, and style are up to you. This is your quilt.
  • There is a monthly option for “quilter’s choice” built in because life happens, but we’d still love for everyone to participate.
  • The “rules” are guidelines. If the spirit is moving you to do your own thing, jump ahead, or come back to a prompt later, feel free to do so. This is a “choose your own adventure” endeavor (and we know it gets exciting to follow your momentum).
  • If you photograph your progress, please tag us @hamptonroadsmqg on Instagram, and/or use the hashtag #hrmqgqal2026. We’d love to see your progress and the ways you’re interpreting and working with each month’s prompt.

Quilting and Beyond

In the final couple of months, we’ll start looking ahead to how we want to quilt these pieces. We also would love it if we could feature some of our members’ quilt along quilts at Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival 2027 — rest assured, if you want to submit for our exhibit, we would need the info for your quilt in January, but the quilt itself would not be delivered (finished) until the week of the Festival in February.
