Next up in the Meet Our Members feature is Taren Kretzer. Taren is a founding member, with us since our first meeting. She is the kind of quilter who dazzles with color and piecing and whimsy, and whose quilts carry the messages of what she values and stands for in life. A thoroughly modern maker!

“This year I am working to utilize my stash and do VERY little fabric purchasing. I’m doing pretty well so far! “
Name
Taren Kretzer
Pronouns
She/her
What city do you live in?
Yorktown

What kind of maker are you? (Include sewing and any other mediums you work in)
Quilting, bag-sewing, and a little embroidery.
How long have you been sewing/quilting?
About 12 years
How many quilts have you made?
Ooh that’s hard because I give so many away! I’m a slow maker so maybe…30?

What (and/or who) got you into sewing?
A couple of my great-grandmothers quilted but none of my grandmas or my mom did. My mother-in-law has been a quilter for many years, and she helped me make my first quilt (a t-shirt quilt from old high school shirts) and bought me my first sewing machine! After marrying my husband, we moved to Anchorage, AK (USAF), and I took a ‘From Start to Finish’ class at a local quilt shop, and the rest is history!
If you could describe your style in three words, what would they be?
Bright, colorful, cozy
What is one goal you have for sewing/quilting?
This year I am working to utilize my stash and do VERY little fabric purchasing. I’m doing pretty well so far! I also want to get better at curves. They’re tricky and make me crazy!
