We want you to have the chance to meet our members, starting with our Board.
Amanda is our guild’s Treasurer. She brings a background in accounting, as well as a quilt background really grounded in the identity of her intended recipient. Ask to see the backs of her quilts; they’re just as impressive as the tops.

“[I want to] create a space for quilters of all skill levels to be accepted and find a community, no matter their age, race, identity, or orientation.
And then to take over the world, one quilt at a time.”
Name
Amanda
Pronouns
She/her
What city do you live in?
Chesapeake

What kind of maker are you? (Include sewing and any other mediums you work in)
I love making things that can be beautiful and useful. About twenty years ago, I started out as a crocheter, and that was my main craft until I bought a sewing machine in 2023. I love making kitchen items (potholders, trivets, etc) and bags (because is there really such a thing as too many tote bags…?) Recently, I started trying my hand at embroidery and hand quilting, so I have something other than Melon Maker to do on the couch during a binge session.
How long have you been sewing/quilting?
About 2 years
How many quilts have you made?
4 are done, 2 are in progress, 5 more planned!

What (and/or who) got you into sewing?
YouTube! I tend to be a person who kind of sticks my toe into a new hobby and then immediately wants to buy and do All The Things. I went to Joann for fabric to make a set of placemats, intending to make them with Heat and Bond…but then there was a starter machine on sale for $100, so I bought that instead and immediately started bingeing YouTube videos. The rest is history.
If you could describe your style in three words, what would they be?
Simple but effective (as they say on the Great British Baking Show…)
What is one goal you have for sewing/quilting?
To learn how to be a bit looser and easygoing. I’m a *touch* Type A, and a planner by nature, so I have a tendency to want to wring every opportunity for spontaneity out of a project…ask me about my spreadsheet for making sure I don’t use the same fabrics together in too many blocks. (I wish I was joking.)

Bonus Board Member Question: what is one goal you have for our guild?
To create a space for quilters of all skill levels to be accepted and find a community, no matter their age, race, identity, or orientation.
And then to take over the world, one quilt at a time.
Where can people find you and your work? Website? Socials?
